03 - ¼ teaspoon black pepper

→ Bacon

04 - 8 slices bacon

→ Vegetables

05 - 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
06 - 8 leaves romaine lettuce

08 - 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
09 - 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard (optional)

10 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for toasting, optional)

# Directions:

01 - Season the cooked chicken breast slices evenly with salt and black pepper on both sides.
02 - Place bacon slices in a skillet over medium heat. Cook until crispy, approximately 6-8 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain excess grease.
03 - Lightly butter bread slices if desired. Toast in a toaster or grill pan until golden brown and crispy.
04 - Arrange 3 slices of toasted bread per sandwich. Spread mayonnaise (and mustard if using) on one side of each slice.
05 - On the bottom slice, layer romaine lettuce leaves, tomato slices, and half of the seasoned chicken slices.
06 - Place the second bread slice mayonnaise-side down. Add additional lettuce, tomato slices, and 2 crispy bacon strips.
07 - Top with the third bread slice, mayonnaise-side down. Press gently to settle layers.
08 - Insert toothpicks at opposite diagonal corners to hold the triple-decker structure together.
09 - Cut each sandwich diagonally into halves or quarters using a sharp knife. Serve immediately while bread remains crispy.
10 - Repeat assembly process for remaining ingredients to create 4 sandwiches total.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • The triple decker construction means every bite has all the flavors working together
  • These come together in under 30 minutes but feel like something special
02 -
  • Toothpicks are non negotiable here because three layers of bread with all those fillings will absolutely slide apart when you cut them
  • Assembly goes faster if you have all your components prepped and laid out before you start building
03 -
  • Pat your tomato slices dry with paper towels so they do not make the bread soggy
  • Let the bacon drain thoroughly on paper towels so excess grease does not soak through
